It’s Time To Clean The Slate…
In the beginning God created… that’s how the Bible begins (Genesis 1:1). From nothing God created something and you are created in His image and likeness (Genesis 27:1). We are human beings, we are designed to be and we are designed to create.
Every day of our lives we get to choose to live in the moment which is always a fresh new canvas… we can also choose to bring the past into today, or focus on the uncertainty of tomorrow. This will darken and tint our canvas and what we choose to create and who we ultimately choose to be in our lives.
Horses are amazing in so many ways, and one of the various ways they help us become better is they live in the moment. Now if you’ve worked with rescues or horse’s with a traumatic past you might question if the horse brings the past with them.
In my experience, the answer would be that they don’t hold on to the past, although I do believe that stimulus in the moment can trigger reactions from the past as horses must evolve and be ever present to dangers in order to survive.
Ultimately, your horse is living in this moment and any horse you work with will reflect back at you what you’re presenting to them.
When you’re clear and focused, you will gain clarity and focus from the horse.
You are the author of your life and how you experience it. Your life is 100% your responsibility. If bad things have happened to you in the past that doesn’t mean it’s your fault.
For example I was sexually abused as a child, that’s not my fault. It is however, my responsibility to decide how my life is affected by it.
Growing up, I went through a time that I felt dirty, broken, and less than… only by the grace of God did I not stay there.
I battled with depression, suicidal thoughts, crippling anxiety, fear, pain, and heartbreak. My animals, especially my horse and my dog were my guardian angels that guided me through to finding who I really was and who I am now.
I get to choose how I view what happened in the past. Whether I drag a heavy burden or label with me that makes me feel like a victim… or I choose to forgive move past this event stronger, empowered, and able to serve from what I learned through the pain of that experience.
I have lived in and experienced both choices in my life, and it led me to realize bringing my past with me to my present would block any chance at a life worth living and enjoying.
I chose that being sexually abused is and was a neutral circumstance. It has nothing to do with who I am as a person and has no bearing on my life now or years to come.
Each day is a new beginning… what do you need to let go of from your past?
Mistakes you’ve made, things you’ve done, things you’ve said, things that were out of your control, things that were in your control.
Take a moment and ask God to help you find the grace, compassion, wisdom, forgiveness, and guidance you need to complete the past, find peace, and move on to create the life He has destined for you.
No matter how your story originally began, you can rewrite in a new way today.
From a clean slate and a fresh start, what will you create today?

These are daily meditations for both your personal life and that of your “horse life” to improve, strengthen, and grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Read them a few times per day, repeatedly throughout the week. Write it down and allow the truth to settle and make peace in your heart.
What lies in my past cannot be changed. What is to come of my future is out of my control, but is shaped by my thoughts, feelings, and actions I choose to take today. I release both my past and my future to the Lord. What others meant for evil or harm for me, God will work out for good in my life (Genesis 50:20). I seek God and his thoughts and plans for my life and He will keep and guard me wherever I go (Genesis 28:15).
What lies in my horse’s past cannot be changed. What is to come of their future is out of my control but is shaped by my thoughts, feelings, and actions that I choose to take today with them. I release my horse’s past and future to the Lord. As I seek to connect and communicate with my horse, I will find the guidance and answers I need to move forward with them.
‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you, ‘says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.’
